The third generation of K-pop (2012-2017) is marked by the genre’s global internationalization, the popularization of social media and YouTube, and the emergence of iconic groups such as ASTRO, GOT7, SEVENTEEN, BTS, EXO, BLACKPINK, and others. This phase saw K-pop establish itself as a global phenomenon, with music blending diverse genres and greater recognition in Western markets.

Internationalization: Groups gained global prominence, driven by the internet and platforms like YouTube.
Growth in online engagement: The success of groups demonstrated the importance of online engagement.
Musical diversification: Music began to blend genres such as rock, electronic, and R&B.
Increased power of smaller agencies: The rise of companies like BigHit Entertainment (now HYBE) highlights the diminishing dominance of large agencies.
